Women cruise past Eaglettes, 6-1
Skyhawk women clinch No. 1 seed in OVC tourney with victory over Tennessee Tech

The Skyhawk women’s tennis team remains undefeated in the OVC and continued it’s winning streak Saturday when UTM defeated Tennessee Tech, 6-1, in Nashville.
The women picked up the victory, winning five of six singles matches and two of three doubles.
Things started out rocky for UTM in the doubles matches when Elly Shearman and Elizma Schoonees were defeated by the TTU pair of Marina Tasheva and Alet Bonzaaier.
The Skyhawks evened it up at 1-1 with Sari Nortje and Katrina Domela defeated Margot Carter and Kay Ngiam.
UTM picked up the doubles point when Gayatri Ramesh and Jeanne de Wet took down Melisa Cansado and Maja Russinova.
In the first singles match, Nortje defeated Tasheva, 2-6, 6-1, and 7-5. Ramesh dropped the second 2-6, 6-0, and 6-2.
The Skyhawks rebounded from the loss and picked up the next four wins with Shearman over Cansado, 6-1, 2-6, 6-0; Domela over Carter 6-4 in both sets; de Wet defeating Ngiam 6-2, 6-3; and Schoonees rounding out the day beating Russinova in two sets 6-4, 6-3.
The women are now 9-0 in the conference and 14-3 overall.
They were scheduled to play Southeast Missouri yesterday, but the match was cancelled due to inclement weather.
With their undefeated conference record, the Skyhawk women will enter the OVC tournament as a No. 1 seed.
The men were not so lucky against Tech, picked up the doubles point but could only manage one singles victory and loss the match The first doubles win came when the brother’s Anzola, Gustavo and Adolfo, defeated Shunsuke Shimizu and Javier Saab, 9-7.
The men clinched the point with Dirk Prinsloo and Daniel McGuire beat Borja Zarco and Michele Panzeri.
The lone singles point came from Ben Hatchwell who defeated Zarco in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 10-3.
The men are scheduled to face Murray tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Skyhawk Tennis complex.
