Vanguard Theatre will present William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Harriet Fulton Theatre on Nov. 10-13.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the first of Vanguard’s three productions for the 2005-2006 season, tells the story of a group of young lovers who spend a night lost in the forest surrounding Athens.

The lovers wander into the woods after Hermia disobeys the Duke of Athens’ command to marry Demetrius. Hermia and her lover, Lysander, go into the forest first and are followed by Demetrius and Helena.

While in the woods the group becomes entangled in a series of spells and practical jokes orchestrated by Oberon, king of the fairies, and his servant, Puck. In the end the spells serve their purpose as each lover ends up with the one they love.

Two other plots also unfold as the play moves forward. The feud between Oberon and his wife, Titania, is important to the play, as is a group of local artisans who wonder into the forest to practice their craft.

Ken Zimmerman, the director, said the play will be easy to follow because of the work of the fairies and the cast’s knowledge of the play.

“We know the story very well so we’ll tell it as clear as we can,” Zimmerman said.

Evening shows will begin at 8 p.m., while the Sunday matinee will start at 3 p.m. The box office will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily beginning Nov. 7 and two hours before each performance. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for the general public.
