UTM greets new band director

As we begin the new fall semester, UTM greets new Skyhawk Marching Band Director Dr. Brian Amaral, who is a welcome addition to the staff.

Last year, Amaral was teaching in a college in southern Colorado. “When I heard of the opportunity to teach here at UTM, I could not wait to come back to Tennessee.” he said.
Amaral received his Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Tennessee Tech as well as his graduate degree; therefore, it was like coming home.

He earned his doctorate from the University of Illinois.

“It’s great to be back in Tennessee and in Martin," Amaral added, “It’s nice to be where family is.”

Amaral began his teaching career at Cookeville Middle School and High School throughout the 1990s.

“My experience at Cookeville was first rate,” Amaral said of the experience. After completing his graduate work, he became a graduate teaching Assistant at the University of Iowa.

Upon completion, he taught at Adams State College in southern Colorado.

“I have a lot of familiarity with Tennessee and it is great to be back,” Amaral said of his move in an easy stride.

Upon witnessing his congenial nature, friendly demeanor and obvious expertise, it is evident that UTM is lucky for him to join the staff.
