Two males were arrested last Thursday after causing a disturbance at the Elam Center after the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority pool party. When police arrived on the scene at 11:05 p.m., they found a group of males yelling and threatening a fight with another group.

After officers told the group to disperse, Adam Savage, 23, continued to yell and attempted to start a confrontation.

Officers said Savage had an odor similar to alcohol emanating from his person.

Savage refused to give officers his identification six times and then began screaming obscenities at officers.

Officers then tried to handcuff Savage, but he fought back as he continued to shout obscenities at officers. Police tried to use chemical spray against Savage, but the canister was knocked from the officer’s hands during the struggle. After further struggle, officers subdued Savage.

Even after police handcuffed Savage, he continued to resist as he was being placed in a UTM Police patrol car.

An officer was injured during the scuffle but was treated and released from the Volunteer Community Hospital.

Savage was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Also during the incident, Marcus Martin, 21, of Martin, refused to leave the scene after being asked to leave six times.

Martin was arrested at the scene for disorderly conduct.

According to Public Safety, during a routine search of Martin’s person, officers found a plastic bag containing a “green, leafy plant-like material believed to be marijuana” in his right front pants pocket.

Martin was permanently banned from the UTM campus on April 2, 2001.

Martin was charged with disorderly conduct, simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and criminal trespassing.

Savage and Martin were both referred to Weakley County General Sessions Court.
