Mark Stanfill, who gave up a career watching dollar signs go by his computer screen to help the Cumberland Trail Conference (CTC) build the Cumberland Trail, will be the featured guest at the Feb. 2 meeting of the Northwest Chapter of the Tennessee Trails Association. Stretching from Chattanooga to the Kentucky state line, the Cumberland Trail will be Tennessee's longest state park.
Mark will talk on the Cumberland Trail Conference's plans and efforts in constructing this trail and how college students donate their spring break time to help build the Cumberland Trail during "Spring Breakaway. " In May and June, some of these same students return in paid positions to serve as leaders for the hundreds of volunteers, including many TTA members, who work in CTC's annual "Big Dig."
Plans for the local TTA chapter's hike at Mousetail Landing State Park will also be discussed.
The meeting is Monday, Feb. 2, 7:00 p.m., in room 231 of the Boling University Center on the UT Martin campus.
The Tennessee Trails Association is a statewide hiking club dedicated to the maintenance, construction, and use of hiking trails.
Anyone who shares similar interests is invited to participate in our meeting and outings.
