The 2003 Intramural Flag Football season officially came to an end last Sunday.

With nearly 50 teams participating in the tournament, the competition was extremely stiff and the games were close. Every single one of the top-seeded teams (ranked after the regular season based on their regular season records and margin of victory) made it to the championship game in their respective division.

The majority of upsets in the tournament took place in the championship game of the various divisions.

In the fraternity division, top-seeded KA took the first-place honors, holding off the Pikes in the championship game. That game was the only one that KA played in that division, as they received a bye for the first round and a default win in the second round. Apparently the time off did not slow down KA. The fraternity champs did not have much time to celebrate as they prepared to take on the sole survivor of the other bracket of the men’s Talon League.

N.O. cruised thought both their regular season schedule and their tournament schedule, recording a perfect record going into the game with KA. N.O. proved to be the better team, defeating KA 14-6 in the Talon championship game.

The next stop for the undefeated N.O. team will be New Orleans, where they will compete against flag football teams from all across the nation.

Chi Omega claimed the sorority championship again this year, going undefeated in sorority play.

In the overall women’s Talon League, Chi Omega squared off in the championship game against the only team that defeated them in the regular season, Risky Business, who featured an undefeated record coming into the game.

This time around, Chi Omega again proved themselves to be the team to beat at all times, handing Risky Business their first loss of the year in a 6-0 shut out. Chi Omega thereby won the prestigious trip to New Orleans for the second year in a row. The Claw League featured an interesting championship game, in which the undefeated Ballers took on the COCSC, who were perhaps the “Cinderella” team of the tournament.

No one expected the Church of Christ team to play a significant role in the tournament, but they refused to go down, fighting their way into the championship game. It was not meant to be as the Ballers took the ball to Cinderella, defeating COCSC 20-6 to claim first place.

Omegas and a Pike won the championship in the Jack and Jill Division, although this particular championship was marked by controversy.

The 4D’s actually defeated Omegas and a Pike in the championship game, but were forced to default due to the fact they had too many varsity athletes playing on their team. So in the end, it was Omegas and a Pike that were crowned the victors.
