‘The Village’ thought provoking, spellbinding

If you’ve ever seen The Village by M. Night Shyamalan, you know that red is the bad color. So, on my way home from Dyersburg, my friends were pointing at me and shouting, “The bad color!” I just happened to wear a red shirt to the movies. Go figure.

The Village, released July 30 by Touchstone Pictures, is about Covington, a small village in rural Pennsylvania. The population of the village is confined to a small area surrounded by trees. The residents of Covington believe if you step into the woods, evil mythical creatures cloaked in red will kill you. In order to keep these evil creatures from invading their village, they bury any object that is red and refuse to wear any clothing that is red.

All I can tell you is that a woman boldly steps into the haunted woods for the love of her fiance`. If I tell you any more, I’ll ruin the movie for you.

M. Night Shyamalan, who also produced Signs, Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense, takes you on a journey through the woods that will leave you amazed at the end. Questions throughout the movies will be answered as the movie wraps up, just as they were in The Sixth Sense.

Many great leading actors and actresses played supporting roles in The Village. Adrien Brody, who starred in The Pianist, plays a mentally ill man that lets jealousy get the best of him. He finds out Covington’s secrets, and tries to get his revenge. Sigourney Weaver, the leading actress in Aliens, plays an elder of Covington that wants to keep the secrets of the village hidden.

The Village is both thought provoking and spellbinding that will leave you thinking for days. Three days after I saw The Village, it hit me why the elders sent that particular girl in the woods. But don’t ask me, go watch The Village and find out for yourself. Like Alfred Hitchcock, M. Night Shyamalan makes a cameo in every one of his movies. I found him in The Village. See if you can.
