If you were waiting to see A Knight’s Tale II, then you’ll be happy to know that it is here. But all of the cast members are now Catholic priests.
Health Ledger (A Knight’s Tale) plays a Catholic priest named Alex Bemier. Mark Addy (A Knight’s Tale) plays Father Thomas Garrett. They are both summoned to Rome to investigate the death of their former teacher Dominic (Francesco Carnelutti).
The crime scene showed signs that some sort of ritual had taken place at the time of his death. Dominic had been excommunicated from the church, and had called on something called a “sin eater” to eat his sins so he could pass into heaven.
During the course of the movie, you find out that a sin eater is an immortal that can forgive sins outside of the church.
The sin eater William Eden played by Benno Furmann is trying to manipulate Father Alex to forgive his sins and then take his place as the sin eater.
Eden ultimately has to use Mara, the woman Father Alex secretly loves, played by Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight’s Tale) to influence Alex’s decision.
The movie had an interesting and original story that was wounded by the addition of a number of different sub-plots.
Over all, it was a boring movie with no scary moments as the previews had implied. The Exorcist, this is not. The special effects were not that special. I recommend that you save your money and wait for it to come out on cable.
The movie is written and directed by Brian Helgeland and produced by Baumgarten Merims Productions, 20th Century Fox.
It’s rated R, and can be seen at Cine Theater. Check the Cine ad for show times.
