UTM student Miles Moore, 19, of Bells, Tenn., was arrested Friday night on charges of driving under the influence, underage drinking, causing damage to three vehicles and leaving the scene of an accident.
According to reports from the Martin Police Department, Officer Larry Baker was driving in the parking lot of Martin Place Apartments when he heard a loud crash near the 700 building of Martin Place. Baker also heard a vehicle coming in his direction that was observed to be a gray Chevrolet pickup that was dragging something underneath it.
When Baker approached the driver, Moore, he detected an alcoholic odor about Moore’s person. Moore admitted that he had been drinking.
Martin Police’s investigation revealed that Moore was driving in the parking lot when he struck two parked vehicles. One of the vehicles that was hit was knocked into a third vehicle. Moore then left the scene of the accident.
The vehicles that were hit included a 1986 Cutlass, a 1995 Camaro and a 1992-year vehicle. The make and model of the last vehicle was not listed on the police report. In total, damages were estimated to be at least $8,500.
Moore was given three sobriety tests that led officers to arrest Moore on charges of driving under the influence. He was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident, underage drinking and violation of the implied consent law. Moore was issued the last charge when he refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.
Moore was arraigned in Weakley County General Sessions Court on Monday. A preliminary court date has been set for May 18. He posted a bond amount of $1,500 on the same day that he was jailed at the Weakley County Detention Center.
According to the athletics Web site, http://www.utmsports.com, Moore is also a reserve pitcher for the UTM Skyhawks baseball team.
A 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass belonging to UTM student Greg Peppard was one of the three vehicles damaged in the Martin Place parking lot Friday night, outside of the 700 building.
