Student breaks glass in Administration Building

A UTM student that was informed by the Financial Aid office that he would not be able to receive financial assistance chose to break the windowpane of a southeast exit door of the Administration building.

According to a UTM Public Safety report, officers were dispatched to the administration building. The responding officer arrived on scene and observed shattered glass all over the sidewalk area and some even inside the building. The responding officer then made contact with the financial aide office.

The police report goes on to say that Bobbie McClain of Financial Aide office told the officer that a man by the name of Clarence Edward Williams had spoken to her about not meeting the requirements to receive financial aide. When Williams left the office, McClain heard glass shattering and called public safety to report the incident.

Officers searched campus and Cooper Hall for Williams, but he could not be located.

Contact was made with Mr. Williams two hours later. He was issued a misdemeanor citation for vandalism charges under $500 and was given a court date of Jan. 26.

Maintenance advised that the costs of repairing the window are $63. Restitution will be sought through the courts.

McClain was not available for contact about the incident.

However, Judy Woodriff of financial aid office said that hte deadlines for applying for financial aid are announced by the business office.

Carol Lewis, bursar of the business office, says that Williams was working on getting all of his financial aid together.

Williams will appear in court for vandalism charges on Jan. 26 at 1 p.m in Dresden, Tenn.
