You have probably seen all the signs around campus about the different types of tests offered here, but what are they and who needs to take them?
The Student Academic Support center offers a variety of tests that at some point you are going to have to take. The question is which test and how much, because every department requires a different test.
The GMAT is a test designed for the school of business students. There are two parts to this test consisting of two essays, analytical part, and also a verbal portion. Two scores are given after completing the test. The verbal and analytical are scored the same day you take the test. However, the essay scores are given back about two weeks later. The cost for this particular test is $225.
Engineering students will take a test called the NCEEC.
The foreign exchange students have to take the TOEFL test to become eligible to be a student at UTM. The test costs $130.
Education majors will take a test known as the PPST for $130. They can also take a test for their subject area, which if they pass their paychecks go up 3 to 4 thousand a year for $2,000.
Everybody else will take either the GRE or the Miller Analogy test. The GRE is set up like the GMAT but only cost $115. The Miller Analogy test is given by paper and pencil for $47.
UTM also offers the GED for people all across West Tennessee two times a month. The people who take the GED test must first attend the Adult Learning Institution in their county. The test costs $55 and the fees collected from these tests go towards tutors and to help fund academic support. The center is also in charge of the following tests: senior exit exams, all major field exams, disability exams, and CLEP tests.
