The senior exhibit of Nici Stout and Emily Lockhart An Exhibit of Design and Photography opened in the Fine Arts gallery Tuesday, November 9.

Stout and Lockhart are both graphic design majors. Both exhibits featured an array of their graphic design accomplishments from the past four years.

“In this exhibit, I hope to display style. It has been a process of trial and error, a skill that grows and develops with time,” said Stout. Stout’s exhibit was compiled of all graphic design pieces created in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

One compilation “Spring and Summer 2004” is a collection of twenty photographs. It includes several beach scenes, colorful flowers and a few zoo animals. All of the pictures were taken in Florida.

“I know Nici very well and the bright colors she’s used in her display really showcase her bright attitude,” said Lauren Rogers, a senior business major from Martin.

Another piece, Public Service Ads, is a series of three magazine ads teaching of the risks involved in premarital relations. The 3-page layout is made up of text, along with red and black dots. The simplicity of the ads say so much and really explain the statistics of the dangers of premarital relations.

Emily Lockhart’s exhibit features mostly graphic design pieces, with the addition of some drawings and a painting. Her graphic design pieces include examples of magazine and newspaper ads as well as business letterheads. All of Lockhart’s pieces were unlabeled because she felt it would be more meaningful to the viewer if the work spoke for itself.

One of her pieces is of a sunset on a beach. It is an acrylic painting on unprimed canvass which took a year to complete. It features a tree on a cliff with colorful autumn leaves and in the background is a beach with the sun setting off in the distance. “The part with the beach is not original. I had something else there and I decided to make it a beach instead so after I had completed the painting, I went back and painted a beach over it,” said Lockhart.

“I really enjoyed the color variation and the impressionist style brush strokes,” said Hilary Webb, a graduate student of Education from Memphis.

The exhibit will be in the fine arts gallery through November 19. Ms Stout and Ms. Lockhart urge everyone to come by and see it.
