Spirit Chain to help link families back together

The Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center has recently expended offices to serve Weakley and Obion counties. Prevention of child abuse is the main focus of the center, which has been aiding families in West Tennessee since 1979.

The class goal was to bring awareness of child abuse in teh community and support the center financially. During the past year, almost 2,000 children and 900 families were served by the center. Services offered include crisis intervention, initial needs assessment, parenting classes, a child-advocate program, a volunteer parent-aide program, a 24-hour crisis hot line, clothing items, a food pantry, and programs designed to increase community awareness about child abuse and the services of the center, all of which rely heavily upon outside donations.

Links for the chain were purchased for 25 cents each all week in the UC. The goal of the project is that the chain would reach across the football field. The group met their goal and then some: the Spirit Chain had 3,200 links and could have wrapped around the football field.

Leaders-in-Residence presented the Spirit Chain and a check for $800 at halftime of the football game against Murray State on Thursday.
