Softball sweeps home non-conference twinbill from Billikens

The Skyhawk softball team had back to back wins over the St. Louis Billikens Wednesday afternoon as the held their opponents scoreless in both games.
The two teams appeared to be very evenly matched, as the starting pitchers for both schools had very impressive outings.
The first game showcased a showdown between the Skyhawks’ Ashton Strode and the Billikens’ Lorena Floccari.
Strode pitched seven full innings only allowing four hits with three walked batters and seven strikeouts.
Floccari pitched a complete game for St. Louis, giving up seven hits, three runs, and five strikeouts.
All of the Skyhawks’ runs were scored in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs.
The first run came when Emily Webb crossed the plate off a double by shortstop Stacey Weaver. Centerfielder Christa Webb would bring home the second run of the inning when she hit a single up the middle scoring Lauren Manna.
Weaver, who started the rally, was able to able to steal home from third and score the final run.
The Skyhawks went on to win the first game 3-0 over St. Louis.
In game two the pitcher’s duel would continue as the Bilikens once again put Floccari on the mound to face off against Ashley Myatt and the Skyhawks.
Myatt pitched a complete game for the Skyhawks only walking two batters while striking out three.
She gave up six hits and no runs. Floccari showed her stamina by pitching back to back complete games.
She walked one batter and gave up eight hits while managing five strikeouts.
The Skyhawks only run came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Weaver knocked a double to the wall scoring third basemen Brandy Whalen who reached earlier with a single.
Strode improved to 9-9 on the season and Myatt improved to 10- 4. With these wins, the Skyhawks to a record of 26-19-1 headed into the weekend’s series against Morehead State.
