Soccer ‘kicks’ its way to third OVC victory

With a 5-0 win over visiting Morehead State on Friday, Oct 31, the UTM Skyhawks clinched homefield advantage in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference. This was the first time the team has had the opportunity to have home field advantage. In other notables, the Skyhawks won three straight OVC matchups to close the season.
The Skyhawks came out and took control of the game early as they scored four minutes into the first half. With 30 minutes left in the first half, Katie Jackon scored her second goal of the game which tied teammate Dani Myrick’s record of 16 goals set last seaon.
The hawks would continue to pour it on, adding a goal by Junior Amy King to end the half 3-0. King’s goal was her first of the season.
The second half was nearly a mirror image of the first, with Myrick scoring her eleventh goal of the season three minutes into the half.
Freshman Ann Cook delivered the final blow with three minutes left in the game to end the game 5-0.
Skyhawk goalkeeper Megan Dempsey finished the game with eight saves, 120 for the season.
Morehead only amassed four saves.
Morehead finished their regular season with a 2-12-1 overall and a 0-7 conference record.
The Skyhawks, tournament bound, finished fourth in the conference with a season record of 9-6-3, and a 4-2-2 conference record.
