The Skyhawk baseball team went 0-3 in a road swing that saw them facing Birmingham-Southern and Lipscomb University last week.

The first game on Wednesday, March 12, against BSC found the Panthers scoring first in the bottom of the second on a single-run homer.

UTM answered back and tied it in the third when Jason Moore scored after singling to right and stealing second. Nick Bruner was credited with the RBI.

Unfortunately for the Skyhawks, this would be the only run they would be able to put on the scoreboard.

BSC regained the lead in the bottom half of the third after a runner got on base after being hit by a pitch and advancing on a ground out, passed ball, and a single.

The Panthers added four runs in the bottom of the sixth and one more in the bottom of eighth to clinch the victory.

Adam Ledlow (1-2) was the losing pitcher for UTM, giving up six runs on six hits in 5.2 innings.

Sunday’s game’s score was a little closer, but the Skyhawks still came out on the losing end of the battle, 9-7.

BSC jumped out to an 9-0 lead going into the top of the sixth when the Skyhawks looked as if they were going to make the comeback.

Moore opened up the inning with a single through the left side. Hideaki Sato and Zane Gresback walked to load the bases. Bruner singled down the left field line scoring Moore and Sato.

Chris Rezeback was then hit by a pitch, loading the bases once again.

Brett Spivy then homered to left center scoring Gresback, Bruner, and Rezeback, putting the Skyhawks run total at 7, pulling them to within two.

That would be as close as they could come and BSC won the two-game series.

Derek Link (0-2) picked up the loss for the afternoon, allowing six runs in 2.2 innings.

Coming off the two losses, the Skyhawks looked to a single game in Nashville against Lipscomb to turn things around.

Things looked good for UTM up until the seventh inning.

The Skyhawk bats put runs on the board early with Zach Dean scoring on a pitching error by the Bisons.

UTM added two more in the second when Spivy and Scott McLean scored on a single to left by Sato.

The offensive charge continued in the third with the Skyhawks scoring one more time when Douglas Nicodemus singled to left sending Bruner home.

The score remained 4-0 Lipscomb added two in the sixth, and one in the third to pull to within one run of the Skyhawks.

They then tied and took the lead in the eighth scoring three.

The Skyhawks were unable to add any in the ninth.

The loss was credited to Justin Bryant (1-3) who allowed just seven hits and three runs in six innings.

The Skyhawks fall to 4-14 on the season. They host St. Louis University this afternoon at Skyhawk Field at 2 p.m.
