Skyhawk tennis sweeps TSU in Spring Break OVC matches

The men's tennis team closed out is spring break trip with a 7-0 Ohio Valley Conference win over host Tennessee State Friday afternoon at Hadley Park in Nashville.
The Skyhawks swept the doubles point and cruised through the singles.
The Skyhawks dropped non-conference decisions at Birmingham Southern and West Florida earlier in the week.
Birmingham Southern defeated the Skyhawks, 4-3.
The match came down to the No. 6 singles match final match where Chris Slabbert took the Panther's Richard Walsh to three sets, but it was Walsh who snagged the match, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
The Skyhawks claimed the doubles point as Daniel McGuire and Stephen Bruwer posted an 8-6 win. Adolfo Anzola and Oltion Mollaymeri picked up an 8-1 win.
In singles action, McGuire won at No. 3 singles and Andrey Yesipov won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
West Florida blanked the Skyhawks 9-0 to record its sixth shutout of the season.
The women's tennis team moved to 3-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference standings after blanking host Tennessee State 7-0, Friday afternoon at Hadley Park in Nashville.
The win over Tennessee State wrapped up an eight-day trip where the Skyhawks played six matches, including three against OVC foes.
The Skyhawks cruised to the doubles point as the No. 1 team of Katrina Domela and Sara Leavy posted an 8-1 victory and the No. 2 team of Mary Beth Gunn and Monica Bertram also claimed an 8-1 win.
Earlier in the week, the Skyhawk women defeated Birmingham Southern 5-2 and lost to host West Florida 5-4.
The Skyhawk women swept the doubles point against Birmingham Southern to take a 1-0 lead. Domela and Leavy won 8-6, while the No. 2 doubles team of Jeanne de Wet and Amber Garza 8-1.
In singles action, Domela defeated Jennifer Williams 6-0, 6-2. Leavy beat Kathryn Carroll 6-3, 6-2 and Garza defeated Laura Kirk at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 7-6. Ernestine Koornhof sealed the victory with a 6-2, 6-7, 6-0 win over Stephanie Bocher at No. 6 singles.
The women started off strong getting two wins from the doubles matches as Katrina Domela and Sara Leavy bested Paola Arevaalo and Suzanna Cavalcante 8-4 along with Ernestine Koornhof and Elizma Schoonees taking Miranda Dutra and Anne Beard 8-6.
The Argonauts rallied back in the singles winning four out of six with Elizma Schoonees, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, and Amber Garza, 7-6, 6-2, collecting the two wins for the Skyhawks.
