The Campus Observation committee of SGA is working very hard this year making improvements on campus by listening to the complaints and concerns of the student body.
The committee approached Public Safety with student concerns regarding the locked gate between Browning and Ellington halls. Public Safety assured the committee that the gates would not be locked before 1 a.m.
As for safety concerns -- what if an ambulance needs to get in, fire, etc. -- Public Safety told the committee that they had contacted all area emergency personnel before installing the gate, and said personnel were in favor of the gate because many people parked in the circle overnight. Emergency personnel have keys to unlock the gate.
Before the gate was installed, if an emergency occurred, they would have to call people to move their cars, wait for them and still try to squeeze around the cars left.
Projects still slated for this year include a push for better lighting around campus, new designs for Skyhawk cards and picnic tables in the Quad.
The most-often heard complaint from students is regarding parking. This year, SGA tried to help.
Last week, the Campus Observation committee rented a golf cart and offered rides to people walking around campus, to class from the parking lots and from campus back to parking spaces.
The SGA is soliciting feedback on this service. To voice your opinion, call the SGA office at (731) 881-7785, e-mail the SGA at sga@utm.edu or place it in the suggestion box in the SGA office.
