SAC’s Cafe House presents Open Mic in UC Gameroom

The sounds of raw talent could be heard coming from the UC Gameroom on Wednesday night when SAC presented Cafe House Open Mic night. This was the second Open Mic night of the semester.

Lindsey Brooks, executive chair of Cafe House, along with Nikki Johnson and Adrien Eubank, both executive assistants, opened Wednesday night’s show with Love Will Keep Us Together by Sweet Georgia Brown.

By this time, the crowd had grown from a handful to a roomful. And slowly but surely, students began to surround the stage and welcome each act.

From the acoustic sounds of the guitar played by Mike Sergeant, to the angelic vocals of Brad Hurt, who sang Elton John’s Your Song and Wonderful Tonight. The show displayed a wide variety of talents.

During intermission, you could hear cheers and laughs pouring outside the Gameroom as Brooks did stand-up comedy for the excited audience.

The highlight of the show was when Billy and Ronnie Ward, ‘the Wardens,’ graced the stage during several original performances.

Their singing of Common Sense, Honey, Freedom and When the War is Over was accompanied by guitar-playing which added spice to the evening.

The next Open Mic night will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 25, in the UC Gameroom. SAC and Cafe House will host a Superbowl party at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1 in the Gameroom. There will be free food and drinks. Everyone is invited to attend.

SAC is also sponsoring an event for chocolate lovers called Chocolate Fest from 7 to 9 p.m. in the UC Ballroom.
