Rotaract raised over 573 cans in a canned food sculpture contest.
On Oct. 19 the Rotaract club held their first annual can sculpture contest.
Four student organizations participated in the contest. They included: Black Student Association, Visual Art Society, Alpha Delta Pi and Lead Academy.
There was a variety of creativity between all of the sculptures. The Black Student Association built a castle, complete with a draw bridge, the Visual Art Society built a Campbellās soup can and spelled VSA beside the can, Alpha Delta Pi designed a diamond and Lead Academy spelled out Lead. Katie High, David McBeth and Nan Rountree were the judges for the contest.
The Visual Art Society won 1st place, they received a trophy made of cans, the Black Student Association won 2nd place and Lead won 3rd place. The Visual Art Society also won the most cans used award. They used 240 total cans in their sculpture.
The Rotaract club donated all the canned food to the Weakley County Carl Perkins Center and they appreciate everyone who participated. The Rotaract Club is open to anyone ages 18-30 and meets every other Tuesday at 5:30PM in Room 231. Their next meeting will be Nov. 9.
