Proud to be a Skyhawk

Spring break found me glued to the TV, doing what most college basketball fans were doing, watching my brackets get busted and favorites win.

Of all of the basketball games that I saw, my favorite wasn’t on television.

I got the chance to see my high school team play in the state tournament, in Rupp Arena, for the first time in school history.

A part of me wished that I was a teenager again. I don’t miss high school so much, but more the innocence that went along with it.

I miss sitting around making t-shirts with my favorite players name and number on them. I miss getting together with friends and writing chants degrading theother team.

I miss not caring that people thought it was weird that a hundred people painted purple showed up at the pizza place after games.

Those are the things that I miss...the unadulterated school spirit and feelings thatwent along with wins and losses.

I would love to see more of that at UTM. Whatever happened to the Super Fans? Did they die out when Jon Roos graduated?

So, fellow Skyhawks, don’t be ashamed if you love your school! Wear your Skyhawk colors proud.

The spring sports are underway and are indesperate need of fan support.

Feel free to show up to the games and yell and scream and paint yourself blue and/or orange like you would have in high school.

Have a friend on a team? Then wear their number on your back and support them.

Hell, just show up! I preach a lot about how much fan support means to the players, but it really does. Go ask an athlete if they notice a difference...they do.

So, even if no one else does, I will stand up and admit that it’s UTM, andI love it, I love it, I love it!

GO SKYHAWKS!
