Proud to be a Skyhawk

“Pitchers and catchers reporting.” Favorite words to this baseball fan.

Spring training started last week, and I’m starting to catch baseball fever.

After talking to Skyhawk baseball team members and hearing about how well they played against the Indians in Louisiana over the weekend, I couldn’t be more pumped for their first home game on Friday.

I think everyone involved is looking forward to a great season this year. There’s a lot of promise in this year’s squad.

Softball season is also starting up, with the women playing in two rain shortened tournaments already.

I just hope the weather starts to cooperate with the ladies a little more so that I’ll be able to catch some games.

Tennis has it’s first home matches on Thursday against conference member Eastern Illinois. I don’t know much about tennis, but I’m going to do my best to be in attendance and see how the Skyhawks As the spring sports are starting up, the winter sports are getting close to finishing.

The women’s basketball team is sitting in fourth place in the OVC right now, looking to stay there to pick up the home court advantage in the first round of the tourney. If they do, I want to every Skyhawk fan to show up and cheer these ladies on. They have as much of a shot to win this thing as anyone else. The fans may be the deciding factor.

After not making the tournament at all last year, to be where they are right now is a testament to the new coaching staff. Congratulations to Coaches Tansil, DiFeo, and Brooks. It was exciting to watch Skyhawk women’s basketball again this season.

The men, unfortunately, won’t be joining the women in the postseason, but they will be playing the role of spoiler. They picked up a huge victory over Tennessee State Saturday night and will take that momentum with them to SEMO for their final game.

Good luck to all sports playing right now! Your winning makes my job easier! GO SKYHAWKS!!!
