Prepare for holidays with piano concert

The UTM Piano Ensemble, assisted by special guests, will present a concert of holiday music on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
The program will begin at 8 p.m. in the Harriet Fulton Theatre located in the Fine Arts Building. It is free and open to the public.
The UTM Piano Ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Elaine Harriss, associate professor of Music.
A wide variety of holiday musical selections played by two to 10 pianists will be presented.
Among the pieces to be performed are a two-piano arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, a set of Appalachian Christmas Charols arranged by Vincent Persichetti, Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring, Greensleeves and several Christmas carols that were arranged by Norman Dello Joio.
A special treat for the evening will be an exciting arrangement of Jingle Bells presented by four guest pianists from across the campus.
These performers include Dr. Sue Byrd from Family and Consumer Sciences; Dr. Victoria Seng, assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs; Dr. Neil Graves, Department of English and Dr. William Zachry, the director of the Honors program.
Four members of the UTM Music faculty will join the piano ensemble for a rousing performance of Arrival of Santa Claus for 10 pianists. Music faculty pianists include UTM staff accompanist Delana Easley, assistant professor Scott Roberts, instructor Judith Sullivan and Dr. Harriss.
UTM piano students peforming in the show are Megan Beam, Emily Bethart, Linda Farmer, Eri Miyashita, Joanna Robinson and Hana Umehara.
Two high school seniors, Will Sanderson and Martha Byrd, will also perform.
This concert is a great way to kick off the holiday season this year.
