If you are considering a certificate of proficiency or a foreign language minor, here are the differences to help you decide.
A minor is the quicker as well as the least expensive option of the two. Is it the best? To simply answer that question, it is not.
With a certificate of proficiency, more job opportunities will be presented to you than if you had only completed a minor. If you are only working to receive a certificate, you are required to take more classes as well as encouraged to study abroad to fully grasp the culture.
Regardless of what you decide to do, you will be required to take the Oral Proficiency Interview. This test assesses your oral proficiency in a modern language. It does so by identifying patterns of strengths and weaknesses in oral communication.
The specific aspects evaluated are accent, grammar, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.
The best, but most expensive, route is to get a certificate of proficiency.
