Last week, auditions were held for the first Miss V.I.P Pageant.
The plus-size pageant, which stands for voluptuous, intelligent and pretty, will be held by a student-founded organization called Me, Myself and I.
In the pageant, eight women will compete for the chance to win a $250 scholarship, a trophy and to become the spokeswoman for the organization.
Each contestant participating in the pageant must have a friendly personality, a noteworthy cause or platform and be a role model.
The founder of the organization, UTM senior Krystal Jones, says the organization held its first workshop to help the self-esteem and etiquette of young girls in June 2004.
Since that workshop, Me, Myself and I has held over a dozen more, all targeted at young girls who need a boost of self-esteem. The workshops have been held in Dyersburg, Martin, and Memphis.
The organization serves as a way that Jones can give back. Growing up with self-esteem issues and feeling like she was not good enough, she met a friend who helped change her life. She said she wants her organization to do the same for young girls.
“The pageant will be an awesome show. There will be a variety of talents from saxophones to pianist,” Jones said.
The pageant will be held on Jan. 22, 2006. The cost will be $3 for adults and $1 for children.
