The Martin Board of Mayor and Aldermen has approved the membership of the City/UTM Relations Committee.
At its formal meeting Tuesday night, Oct. 14, the board voted to accept the following committee members: Aldermen Danny Nanney and David Belote; Alderwoman Natalie Boyd; Mayor Randy Brundige; UTM Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Katie High; and students Liz Craig, Eric Tolbert, Beau Pemberton, Joey Pierce, Tameka Russell, Kevin Anderson and Tony Beal.
Alderman Bill Harrison abstained from the vote.
All committee members will serve a term of one year, from Sept. 1 of this year until Sept. 1, 2004. Brundige initially appointed the committee in February 2003.
The board also honored Dr. Aubrey Keller, a UTM professor of Sociology, for 16 years of service to the Weldon Library and the community. Keller has served on the library Board of Trustees and was chairman of the library board from 1990-1994.
“Whereas Dr. Keller has, through his exceptional talent as a master gardener, provided an additional service to our community by volunteering his services to design and coordinate the installation of new flower beds for the C.E. Weldon Library’s new construction and renovation,” Brundige read, in part, from a framed proclamation of achievement, which he then presented to Keller.
“I’m certainly honored to accept this (award) on behalf of the master gardeners, who have contributed so much to this. Thank you,” Keller said.
In other business, the board unanimously approved reopening the application process for city recorder, a position that is open because of the pending retirement of current recorder Dick Tidwell. Applications will continue to be taken in the search for qualified candidates for the job.
