A special thanks to UTM students, community

The Martin City Beautiful Committee and the Weakley County Chamber of Commerce presented the annual Home, Garden and Business Show at the Ag Pavilion on March 4 and 5. We want to recognize a great group of UTM students who helped us make this event a success.

Members of the Chi Omega Sorority gave up their Friday evening and all of Saturday to work in the concession area of the show.

In addition, the Committee thanks Jessica Spicer, an intern in the Martin Economic Development Office, for her valuable assistance in organizing her Chi Omega sisters in this activity. Also, we express appreciation to Dr. Terry Vassey’s Green Club members who staffed with a booth at the show.

The Home, Garden and Business Show is a City of Martin and Weakley County Chamber of Commerce effort.

We appreciate these students at UTM who take an interest in their community and are willing to work to make it a better place to live.

Foreigner review deemed ‘poor’ by two readers

We are writing about the review written by Mary Beth Lewis about the recent Vanguard Production of The Foreigner. The review was well put and explained how the actors performed. One thing we noticed, however, was that the review was more about the actors, and how they worked together, and not about the play itself. Reviews are meant to focus more on a play and not the actors portrayal of their respected characters.

Another thing we noticed was that most of the actors were not mentioned in the review. There were more than two main characters in the play and they were just as important in the plot development as the two mentioned.

We were anxious to see the author’s review of the actors’ portrayal of certain main characters. For example, B. J. Keeton’s portrayal as Reverand David Marshall Lee, Nick Mounts as Ellard Simms, and Eric Danz as “Froggy” LeSueur.

We feel that this play was poorly reviewed and critiqued. If at all possible, we would like to see a follow-up review that includes more of the actors, and their portrayal of their characters, and possibly critiques the play itself.
