LEAD Academy plans year

The LEAD Academy is entering its second year at UTM. LEAD stands for Leadership, Education, Appli-cation and Discovery. Students interested in getting involved in LEAD need to complete there applications by no later then the 15th of September.

According to the LEAD Web page, LEAD Academy is a comprehensive leadership education and development program open to any UT Martin undergraduate student. Participation will equip you with the knowledge and skills and hands-on opportunities to become an effective leader here on campus and after graduation – in your job, in the political arena, and in your community.

Information provided by Rachel Toy, the LEAD Academy Assistant explains that the program is broken down into three levels.

Level one consists of structured workshops and experience to provide specific leadership and management skills.

Level two involves active participation on campus and the community.

Level three offers the student the opportunity to participate in a number of culminating experiences like tutoring corps, service learning, and presentations at professional meetings.

Toy said, “This year they will be looking to get more involved with the local community.”

Toy explained that, as of today the level three students do not have plans for any extended trips this semester as the funds for such a trip are not in the budget at this time, but they may be looking in to doing some fundraising and planning something in the future.

Graduating LEAD academy participants recieve special honors at commencement.
