Omega Psi Phi fraternity held their annual Miss Omega pageant at 7 p.m. on April 6 in the Watkins Auditorium.
At no cost at all, the crowd could watch some of UTM’s young ladies grace the stage. The four contestants who participated were Shavonda Nathaniel, Angela Harris, Andrea Johnson and Taneisha Baker.
There were the standard categories such as talent and evening wear. Each young lady brought their own interesting personalities to the stage.
Nathaniel sang a song by Erykah Badu, in which she managed to incorporate the fraternities’ nickname. A definite crowd pleaser was an inspirational dance performed by Angela Harris ,who was later crowned Miss Omega.
The contestants had to show their character with the questions they were asked. For instance, Harris was asked what her goals in life are how she plans to attain them.
Other questions were not so serious. One such question was, “If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?”
Third runner-up went to Taneisha Baker, second and Miss Congeniality went to Andrea Johnson, and first went to Shavonda Nathaniel.
“When I saw that I was about to be crowned Miss Omega, I was honestly shocked,” said Harris. “This was a wonderful experience.
The other girls and I had a good time together.” Harris plans to graduate from UTM with her degree in Criminal Justice and one day own her own law firm.
“We appreciate everyone coming out in the rain to our event, and I want to send a special thanks to the women who contributed their time to help us pull off a great occasion,” said Arthaniel Bailey, a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
