Fraternities vie for UTM spot

Three fraternities are vying for the first Interfraternity Council expansion in seven years. To this point UTM has received six proposals from fraternities, and three others have expressed interest.

There were three finalists that were invited to do presentations: Sigma Chi, Sigma Pi, and Alpha Kappa Lambda. There will be open forums for anyone who wants information about these fraternities.

Sigma Chi's presentation was Thursday at 5 p.m., Alpha Kappa Lambda's will be Monday at 7 p.m. and Sigma Pi's will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. The groups will also be on campus these days from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

After the presentations the review board will meet to determine which one they will invite to the campus based on the feedback of the students. All presentations will be in room 231 of the University Center.

Denny Bubrig, Coordinator of Student Activities & Greek Life, said officers presented the idea to the IFC and voted unanimously. The issue came about when IFC delegates and officers returned from the South Eastern Interfraternity Conference with ideas of expansion. They looked at a number of ways to generate interest in the fraternity life at UTM.
