Foreign Film Series...Argentinean movie, must-see


One of the richest and most inviting films of the year is El Hijo De La Novia (Son of the Bride). This film was shown Oct. 11 as part of the Fall 2003 Foreign Film Series.

The Argentinean movie, directed by Juan Jose Campanella, spotlights Rafael, a restaraunt owner struggling with a whirlwind of problems including deteriorating relationships with members of his family and close friends. Rafael’s mother, Norma, has Alzheimer’s Disease, and his father, Nino, decides he wants to give Norma her desired wedding in the church.

Before having a heart attack, Rafael believes in hanging onto his family restaurant that has become unsuccessful and too time consuming, forcing him to neglect his family even more.

After the heart attack, Rafael takes a closer examination of his life and realizes he’s been taking some things for granted. He decides to make some major changes in his life and discovers what he’s been missing.

El Hijo De La Novia is a very beautiful and refreshing story of an Argentinean family that seems to be broken apart but comes together by the end of the movie. For an enjoyable evening, everyone should see this film.

Students should go out and rent this must-see movie.
