While most students were enjoying (and we use that word loosely) time with family over the break, the campus was alive with activity. While not all of them are worth a full news story, here are some highlights.
Computer Services The people with UTM Information Technology Services have recently completed the migration from the old “MARS” server in favor of more user-friendly student services. A big thanks for never having to listen to someone from another school crack a planet joke when we give out our student email addresses and Web sites.
Minority Affairs With the 20 year anniversary of the first observed Martin Luther King Day, it is fitting that UTM has decided to mark the occasion with a candlelight vigil, honoring those that fought for the civil rights we take for granted today. We hope the spirit of unity can carry us far beyond a demonstration to the side of the UC.
Athletics The departure of head coach Matt Griffin and the assistant coach corps shocked all of us. UTM did the right thing by moving quickly to replace him with UT Chattanooga assistant Jason Simpson. Here’s to hoping his program garners respect for his player’s actions on the field, in the classroom and in their personal time.
Construction Crews Hard at work this winter break were men and women contractors finishing up projects. University Villages, the Gooch Hall renovations and work on Humanities should all be wrapping up in the next few days. Thank you for keeping the inconveniences to a minimum.
