The junior recital performed by Jason B. Eckford, euphonium and Lantonio Jackson, tuba, was held Sun., April 17, 2005, in the Harriett Fulton Theatre.
The recital started off with Eckford playing “Rhapsody for Euphonium.” Linda Farmer, who played the piano throughout the recital, accompanied Eckford and Jackson.
Jason Eckford is from Jackson, Tenn. and has been playing the euphonium since the sixth grade. “My instructor picked these pieces and I have been working on them since the beginning of the semester,” said Eckford. Upon graduating from UT Martin with a bachelor’s in Music Education, Eckford plans to attend graduate school.
Lantonio Jackson, a Music Education major, is also from Jackson, Tenn. He has been playing the tuba for the past seven years. “I want to be a high school band director after I graduate,” said Jackson.
The recital entailed a mixture of pieces. From a sweet, lulling tune to a loud and boisterous piece of music, captivating the audiences’ attention. The last two pieces of the recital, Dance and Benediction, were played by a quartet. Kevin Ward, euphonium and Tony Ison, tuba, joined Eckford and Jackson to end the concert with a grand finale.
“I loved it,” said Jenny Cooper, an instrumental music major. “I know all four of the guys that performed today and they did a great job. There were some really hard pieces and they performed it well.”
