Last Wednesday evening’s Diversity Rally at 7 p.m. in the Student Life Center was canceled due to “lack of interest,” according to SGA Sen. Keely Gaylord.
Green, who heads SGA’s Multicultural Affairs Committee, said, “We had two (student organizations) contact us out of everyone on campus.” The Diversity Rally was intended to allow student organizations to promote themselves in the light of diversity.
Diversity Week was passed into SGA legislation last year to take place in the second week of every November.
Last year’s Diversity Week included the “Writing on the Wall Project” between Boling University Center and Paul Meek Library.
During that week, students participated in destroying a wall covered with racial slurs and the like. That event will be recreated once every four years to ensure every student has opportunity to be a part of that event, according to Gaylord.
