Cowser publishes book

Bob Cowser, a Martin native, discussed and read excerpts Thursday night from his new book.

Cowser’s book, Dream Season, details the summer and fall he spent playing defensive end for the Watertown Red and Black, America’s oldest semi-pro football team. It also tells of his memories of playing football at Martin-Westview High School and some of the coaches that inspired him along the way.

After Cowser read excerpts from the book, he answered questions from the approximately forty people in attendance. The night ended with Cowser selling and autographing copies of his book and talking with the attendants about his book and writing in general.

Bob Cowser is the son of Dr. Bob Cowser and Dr. Mary Ellen Cowser, both are teachers in the English department. “I think I would’ve enjoyed reading it even if I weren’t his father.” Said Bob Cowser Sr., Professor Emiritus of English.

Cowser is currently an associate professor of English at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY., where he teaches creative non-fiction. He holds a Ph.D. in creative writing from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, and an M.A. in English from Marquette University, and a B.A. in English and Print Journalism from Loyola University in New Orleans.

He mentioned that even though the book was about football, you didn’t have to like football to enjoy the book. “I’m not interested in football but I really like the sections he read and I really want to buy iy. “ said Kim Gibson, a sophomore English major from Fayetteville.
