College Democrats aim for national ‘change’ with Pocket Change Primary

UT Martin College Democrats held their own primaries this week, allowing voters to use change to support a change in this country.

On Jan. 26-28, UTM staff, students and visitors who passed through the UC dropped money in bowls to show support for their favorite presidential candidate as part of the Pocket Change Primary. Each penny counted for one vote.

After all the money was counted, the amount in each candidate's bowl divided by the total "votes" yielded the primary results.

North Carolina Senator John Edwards won the pocket primaries with 33% of the vote. Wesley Clark came in second with 32% of the vote. John Kerry trailed behind for a third place finish with 11%. George Bush received 7% of the vote. Howard Dean received 7%. Al Sharpton received 5%. Joe Lieberman received 3%. Dennis Kucinich received 2%.

The UTM College Democrats would like to thank everyone that participated in the Pocket Change Primary. All money collected will go to benefit the UTM College Democrats.
