Campus mourns losses of current, former student

Jimmy Dale Singleteary II, 23, of Bogota, was killed in a single-car accident on Tuesday, Nov. 22, on Tyson Road in Union City.
Singleteary was a UTM student majoring in Economics, and had planned to graduate in December. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
According to reports in the Union City Messenger and the Dyersburg State Gazette, Singleteary was traveling west on Tyson Road near Tyson Foods when his 2002 Dodge Ram left the road and struck a culvert about 3:54 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Union City Police Department.
Curry’s Funeral Home in Dyersburg handled the funeral arrangements for Singleteary.
A former UTM student also died last week. Jessica Benjamin, 19, of Halls died Monday, Nov. 21, at her home. Benjamin completed her freshman year at UTM, but withdrew from the university during the Fall 2005 semester.
Benjamin was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. Her visitation was Thursday night, Nov. 24, and the funeral was held Friday, Nov. 25. Garner Funeral Home in Ripley handled the arrangements.
